Unremarkable in every particular. Pleasant enough. No spark whatsoever.

comment:2 by S. Pardoe (People & Places), 12 years ago

His references are almost comically flat. The most animated thing anyone managed was that he 'kept the seat warm'. He does, by every account, nothing.

And for Gateshead, nothing is the job. It is a two-person rota in a very quiet room in the Civic Centre, watching a screen that must be watched and asked no questions of. We do not want a curious mind up there in Room 3.14. We want a warm, incurious body that turns up, sits, and goes home. He is, in that narrow sense, the perfect candidate.

comment:4 by M. Ross (Personnel Security), 12 years ago

An incurious man is a safe man. Approved.

comment:5 by G. Naismith (People & Places), 12 years ago

Appointed to the Gateshead satellite rota — the northern travel allowance, the guaranteed parking space, and the very quiet office. He will do nicely.
