The London Low Emission Zone starts today. For our purposes:

  • Pool cars: not affected.
  • Pool vans: not affected yet. Larger vans and the minibus come in later (2010, I'm told). I'll look at the minibus before then.
  • Hired lorries: from today, anything over 12 tonnes going into London needs to meet the standard or pay. If you're hiring one for a London delivery, check with me first.


If you get a letter about the LEZ, don't ignore it and don't pay it. Bring it to me.

To add: LEZ charges and any penalty notices will not be reimbursed through expenses. If a charge is genuinely unavoidable on a business journey, it needs approving before the journey, by me, with a reason.

"I forgot" is not a reason.

Someone has asked whether the zone applies to the A13. Only the London end of it. Southend is not in London, whatever they tell you in Chelmsford.
