For the archive, the result of the Chelmsford lunch table's own referendum on
the alternative vote, held over the soup, is No, by nine to three.
Two of the three Yes votes were cast by the same person, who wishes to be
recorded as "on principle". Going by the early counts the country is about
to agree with the lunch table, which would be the first time that has ever
happened.
As a follow-up experiment we tried using AV to choose the Friday pudding. The
sponge was nobody's first choice and it won in the third round. Make of that
what you will.

it cannot be audited. I would not sign it off.
Also the counting took the whole of lunch, which is roughly the argument the
No side were making.
