 Who "the Desk" is, for the file, since the file outlasts us.

 The CYM watch is run by two, with a third on loan when the
 estate can spare one:
   - A. Sillitoe  -- desk lead. Eight years on this file.
                     Believes CYM is exactly what it looks like
                     and cannot forgive himself for not proving
                     it.
   - P. Quist     -- analyst. Keeps the recurrences column
                     ([BENSON-RECURRENCES.TXT]); the one who
                     first said the blanks line up.
   - (on loan)    -- whoever operations will release. Rarely
                     the same person twice; none of them stay.

 The rota is two on, and the reading is never done. We have
 watched this company longer than most marriages and know it
 less than we did at the start: then we had questions, now we
 have a filing system for them.

 If you are reading this because the Desk is gone and the watch
 has come to you: the origin is the wall, Benson is the ghost,
 and the answer, if there is one, is not in these files. We
 looked. We looked for years.
